Whatis?

There is a lot of confusion surrounding what computers are and what they are not, more so about the individual components of a computer, there are a lot of acronyms in the IT world, nobody knows what all of them mean and some computing terms are no more than marketing bull****, ask 10 computer `geeks` what 'centrino ™' actually means and you will probably get at least 2 probably 3 different answers (the correct answer is it's Intel marketing hype)

Many people seem to feel embarrassed about their knowledge or lack of , computers. Well we at Centurion Computers probably know nothing about your trade or profession, nor to be honest do we want or need to, we are not embarrassed about that, nor should you be. Computing and IT in general is a massive field and nobody knows or understands all of it, not Bill Gates, Linus Torvalds, not even us ;)

Of course computers can be an expensive game so its nice to know enough to know if you are being fed a line or getting expert advice, in our experience the amount of techno-babble somebody speaks is directly relational to their knowledge of computing. The moment someone explains that your Phase-Inverters need balancing is about the right time to say "stop, speak English or go away!".

Never, ever be afraid to ask if you do not understand something!

With all the above in mind we have decided to put together a few 'whatis?' pages to hopefully get across some of the basic aspects of computers in general , especially those points which seem to cause the most confusion or where disinformation is rife.
